Beard contest 2019: which ones are expected this year?

Beards and moustaches have become very trendy, so much so that you'll find them on every street corner and on many a man's smile. The craze is such that numerous photos of beards are circulating on the networks, highlighting the beard competitions organized. Beard, moustache, goatee... anything goes when it comes to combining technique and originality on these unique days! Whether you're a participant or just a spectator, here are the dates you won't want to miss in 2019.

 

A little history

 

Barbier Bonhomme reminds you of the competitions you need to know about - and see! The very first beard and moustache competition and championship was held in Höfen an der Enz, Germany, in 1990. This gave birth to the World Beard and Moustache Association (WBMA), which takes care to present an annual contest with participants from all over the world. Over the years, both the categories and the stakes of the competition have grown steadily for an interested public that is also evolving, influenced in recent years by the resurgence of the mustache and beard in the fashion world.

 

Beard competitions in France

 

To attend a beard contest of this name, you don't have to cross the borders of France. If you're heading to the north of France, make a detour to Fontaine-Etoupefour, a village that is launching this first year's Championnat International Normand de Barbe et de Moustache. This first edition promises to bring together candidates from all over France, as well as neighboring European countries (Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, etc.), to compete in the most original beard styles. Our advice? Don't forget to take a photo of your favorite beard on the day that brings so many beards together.

If you live near Paris, don't miss the third edition of the Championnat de France de Barbe given in the fashion capital. The year 2018 closed with the coronation of 7 participants in the following categories: " Beard - 20cm ", " Beard + 20cm ", " Freestyle Beard ", " Verdi Beard " " Garibaldi Beard, " Moustache " and " Best in show 2018 ". This 2019 edition will be held in the Bellevilloise loft in the 20th arrondissement of Paris.

 

European competitions

 

Because the beard trend is in full swing, European beard competitions are multiplying, and some are highly anticipated.

As a leading country renowned for its eccentricity and fashion sense, England is a natural choice for beard contest organizers. We invite you to join 500 spectators and admire beards from all over the world in over 24 categories at the British Beard Championships. Nearly 200 participants with quirky beards gathered for the last edition.

 

International competitions

 

America doesn't forget to salute the work of the bearded, organizing a variety of competitions throughout the year. But the one you shouldn't miss is the World Beard and Moustache Association (WBMA), held in Las Vegas during the 2018 edition. This beard contest has been around since 1990, welcoming hundreds of spectators and participants every year for a hand-picked panel of judges.

 

How are participants graded?

 

Every competition has its surprises in store when it comes to judging the participants. While beard trimming technique and aesthetics must be beyond reproach, it's also the intelligence of the chosen costume that can win over the jury. And let's not forget the year-round maintenance of the beard, which can be seen in both its appearance (shine, sharpness of color, etc.) and the downy feel of the hair.
