A soft, shiny beard: only?
It's important to remember that beard balm is often made up of numerous chemical substances, which soften your beard for a shock treatment. To do this, it uses very powerful components that can, in time, lead to hair disorders, such as beard holes, beard that dries out more quickly for a greasier skin, not to mention the appearance of pimples and itching due to excess sebum...
It's not unusual for our customers to ask us for advice on how to soften their beard: there are various methods available, and using natural oils remains the main solution. However, oils are not a substitute for beard balm, as beard oil only strengthens your beard hair, but does not nourish your skin as deeply as a balm.
With a homemade beard balm, you put all the chances on your side to achieve a beautiful beard that's soft and silky to the touch, and also more resistant to external environments such as pollution.

Preparation
Before you get started, you'll need to follow a few rules. The first is to surround yourself with the right utensils, more unusual and not the ones you commonly use, as we describe in this article. If you decide to make your own homemade balm recipe, you'll need to surround yourself :
- Solid fortifying ingredients, such as beeswax, shea butter, cocoa butter, etc.
- The secret is to melt these solid ingredients in a bain-marie, so that they become liquid;
- Stir your mixture often to make sure it doesn't harden;
- When they are quite liquid, remove your pan from the heat and impregnate your preparation with essential oils;
- You can add castor oil, jojoba oil or coconut oil to bring all the benefits;
- or argan oil, sandalwood oil, lavender oil and rosemary oil to add a fragrant note!
The application
For your natural balm, wait until it has completely solidified before applying it, but don't put it in the fridge to keep it malleable. Once you have your beard balm in hand, take a small piece and warm it in your palm. All that's left to do is apply it in the opposite direction, and then in the correct direction of growth of your beard and moustache hairs.
Wait a few minutes, then brush your beard and moustache to remove the excess. You'll have a beard that's replenished, moisturized and ready to face the outside world. Bonhomme recommends that you maintain your beard and moustache in this way, using it once a week, and twice a week if your beard is particularly dry.
