Good beard trimming habits

But what would a beard trim be without its associated beard kit? Gentlemen, if you don't have certain tools and accessories that are essential for beard trimming, how can you successfully achieve a progressive gradation?

Everything you need to know to prepare your beard trimmer

Among the many accessories available for trimming your beard, you should know that they vary according to each person's needs, as well as their dexterity in handling the instrument. Here are the ones we think should be part of your daily beauty routine - or at least, that you should try out at least once to make up your own mind:

  • The razor is certainly the essential accessory for trimming your beard, just as it is for trimming your beard. Made up of 1 to 5 blades, if you're comfortable using it, it can be extremely precise;
  • The beard trimmer is very popular and can be found on every bearded man's washbasin. It's perfect for determining the length of your beard;
  • The tiny shavette is perfect for shaving small, hard-to-reach areas. Vary it with a pair of scissors when you come to the finishing touches!
  • And what would a real barber be without his beard comb? It smoothes and distributes the hairs on your face before moving on to the razor. Our barber tip? Choose a boar bristle brush so that it doesn't pull or de-structure hairs, for a soft feel to the touch.

Prepare your skin

Before the shaving time, it's more than advisable to prepare your skin. Dry or dehydrated skin can easily create cuts, while oily skin has a higher risk of rashes before and/or after shaving.

Don't forget to exfoliate your face once a week, not forgetting your beard, to remove all impurities. For skin that's ready to be shaved, you can clean your beard with a beard shampoo, as well as a conditioner to add softness. The little extra? A beard oil to gently strengthen your beard hair.

How to trim your beard to become trendy bonhomme

Now you need to know how to trim your beard without being disappointed with the result. Shaving means knowing what end result you want, and therefore knowing how to trim your beard.

Must-know tips

To soften your beard hairs when you decide to trim your beard, apply oil (coconut, argan, castor, etc.) to your hairs, or directly to the blades. This is a good way to prevent skin irritation. Always start by defining the area you want to shave with your razor or clippers. If you don't have a razor or trimmer with a pivoting head, always shave in the direction of hair growth, i.e. from bottom to top. For extra smoothness, a cabbage trimmer and foam are the perfect duo for trimming your beard!

From the goat ...

Nothing beats a razor and clippers for a close shave. If you don't, you run the risk of creating "holes", which you'll have to shave off until the next growth. To trim your beard into a goatee, follow these 3 steps:

  1. Remove the hair around your goatee with your razor or clippers;
  2. Remove the hair from your beard trimmer if you've just used it, and change the shoe to the correct size. Run it through your goatee;
  3. Once you have the desired length, simply remove the shoe to define a sharper contour.

...with a 3-day beard

While the 3-day beard is undoubtedly fashionable, it needs to be maintained so that it doesn't look neglected. To do this, you need to know a few tips and follow these steps to trim your three-day beard impeccably:

  1. If you have "holes" in your facial hair, choose a length that hides them. Since a beard takes 5 days to become visible, you can shave it every 3 days, not every day, to protect your skin from shaving irritations;
  2. You can create a gradual gradation by shaving your neck, or remove the hair altogether: the choice is yours! If you don't want to wear a beard collar (even though this was a trend in the 70s), leave a little length of about 1 cm on your neck: it's the little touch that enhances your sex appeal;
  3. If you've finished trimming your beard, all that's left to do is trim your beard with the clippers to remove the hairs on your cheekbones. To avoid removing too many hairs or making a mistake in the final demarcation, comb your hairs for a perfect final result.
